Smith Cemetery - Chestnut Ridge

Located on Claude Howard Road, just off Hwy 62, in the Chestnut Ridge Community of Morgan County, Tennessee. William Houston and Nancy Ann Howard Jones, as well as their son Willie, were originally buried here, before being moved to Roseberry Cemetery in Knoxville by Virgil Jones. A small cemetery in a peaceful setting, Smith Cemetery is well maintained, and contains about 16 unmarked graves.




John Eli Howard, born May 2, 1866, died April 26, 1948, and Mary Jane Averstrut (or Overstreet?) Howard, born Jan 16, 1877, died Jan 26, 1914. He is the son of Philip Allen and Elizabeth Lydia Branstetter.


Philip Allen and Elizabeth Lydia Branstetter Howard. He was the son of John and Martha (Nancy) Howard. She was the daughter of Eli S. and Sara (or Mellisa) Hair Branstetter. They were the parents of Catherine, Nancy Ann, Henry Taylor ("Buck"), John Eli, Mary, Joseph M., Rebecca, Million (Millia), and Lewis M. Howard.


Infant son of Noah and Verna Howard Norris.


Infant son of Mervil McKinley and Florence Emma Jones Smith.
