Eli Branstetter was born August 2, 1813 in Greenville (Carter County). He married Sarah (Matilda or Mellisa?) "Patsy" Hair, who was born in 1815 (1814?). It is unknown for sure who Eli Branstetter's parents were, but they were probably Henry Branstetter and Martha Branstetter. Patsy Hair died in 1857. She lies buried somewhere in Strawberry Farm in an unmarked grave. About 1860, Eli remarried, to Susan Melton. They had one son, Richard Riley Branstetter, who was born in 1862.

Inserted here is a copy of a deed that shows Eli granting land to his son, Richard's wife, Susan :

"This Indenture made and entered into this the 25th day of April 1884 between Eli Branstetter of the County of Morgan and State of Tennessee and Susan Branstetter of the same county afore said. I the said Eli Branstetter deed and levy a tract of land boundering 100 acres known as the Green Lee Hatfield peace lying on the waters of Big Clear Creek in Morgan County registered for bounded as follows tract beginning at a white oak near a line of Halls 200 acre tract near the North side of big Clear Creek, then veins So. W. 120 poles to 2 white oaks near the bluff then S to W 135 poles to a Stake, then S to E 120 poles to a Stake running down the creek to a Stake Standing near Halls line there near said line to the beginning including the house and improvements there Jerimiah Hatfield made that had being the said Susan Branstetter part I the said Eli Branstetter part here I the said Eli Branstetter forces Just Claim unto the said Susan Branstetter to the said 100 acres of land In witnes I set my hand day and year above written.

Witness my hand at office this 7th day of Nov. 1884.

Eli Branstetter died November 11, 1889 in Tennessee. He is buried in High Point Cemetery (formally known as Branstetter Cemetery), in Morgan County, under his initials E.S. Branstetter.
